This project extended over a period of nine years. The associates at the Anton Melik Geographical Institute reviewed all of the geographical names in all sections of the 1:25,000 Državna topografska karta (National Topographic Map). The goal of this review was to verify the suitability of written forms and identify potential errors and deficiencies with regard to the factual and grammatical accuracy of the written forms of all geographical names in Slovenia and bordering areas as well as their semantic classification in the Register of Geographical Names (REZI). The review of geographical names involved inspecting their location, defining them in terms of geographical elements, examining the suitability of their classification under specific types of geographical names, and examining the correctness of their written forms in line with the Slovenian normative guide.
