Mauro Hrvatin is a geographer who received his doctorate in 2016 from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Primorska in Koper. As a research associate at the Anton Melik Geographical Institute of the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU), he mainly deals with physical geography and geographic information systems, but also occasionally researches regional and social geography topics. In recent years, he has participated in numerous national and international projects, performing various research and professional tasks. The project results and findings have been presented in scientific and professional works and at national and international lectures.


Mauro Hrvatin is a geographer and research associate at the Anton Melik Geographical Institute of the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU). He mainly focuses on geomorphological, hydrological, and climate studies. Among other things, he has contributed to several chapters on Slovenia in numerous scientific monographs published by the renowned Springer publishing house. He also researches landscape diversity, natural disasters, and natural and cultural heritage.

He also played an important role in preparing the avalanche atlas and soil erosion data layer, which are part of the online Geographic Atlas of Natural Disasters in Slovenia. The avalanche atlas provides diverse data on the spatial distribution and dimensions of nearly 2,000 snow avalanches, including the expected thickness of the avalanche debris and some descriptive data. Soil erosion was assessed using the RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) method, which is a generally accepted method for assessing soil degradation.
