Manca Volk Bahun completed her degree in geography at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Primorska in 2010, where she also defended her doctoral thesis in 2020. She has been employed at the Anton Melik Geographical Institute of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2010, where she is mainly responsible for digital thematic cartography. Her research interests include geographic information systems and natural hazards. Here, she focuses primarily on the study, modeling and analysis of avalanches. She is a member of the regional headquarters of the Civil Protection for Gorenjska, head of the cryosphere section at the SZGG, a member of several symposium organizing committees and a recipient of various awards.
Research interests
As a cartographer, Manca Volk Bahun is primarily involved in digital thematic cartography and the display of a wide variety of content, which is handled by the colleges and external collaborators. In addition to producing thematic maps, she also deals with GIS analyses and modeling. Her research focuses on physical geography, the geography of natural disasters, especially snow avalanches. She also participates in the observation of Slovenian glaciers.
