Preteklo okolje in klima

Preteklo okolje in klima sta neločljivo povezana s fizično geografijo, saj ponujajo ključen vpogled v pretekle pokrajine, podnebne razmere in geomorfološke procese, ki so temelj za razumevanje sedanjih in napovedovanje prihodnjih geografskih pojavov. Ti koncepti so globoko prepleteni z drugimi glavnimi raziskovalnimi temami našega oddelka, kot je kras v plio-kvartarnih kamninah, kjer pomagajo razjasniti nastanek in razvoj kraške pokrajine v različnih podnebnih režimih; kriosfera, kjer je preučevanje ledeniških ciklov in obsega ledu bistveno za razumevanje preteklih podnebnih razmer; in procesi na pobočjih, kjer zgodovinski podnebni podatki prispevajo k razumevanju sprožilcev in pogostosti večjih erozijskih dogodkov, ki oblikujejo teren.
