Janja Berložnik works in the field of regenerative tourism, with particular emphasis on regenerative culinary tourism, regenerative storytelling in tourism, and the involvement of local communities in tourism development. At ZRC SAZU, she contributes to European projects in the field of tourism and, in her work, places particular emphasis on linking professional and scholarly inquiry with practical experience in tourism, branding, strategic marketing, and project management. She graduated in Communication Studies from the University of Ljubljana, completed a master’s degree in Business Economics at the University of Maribor, and is currently a doctoral candidate in Innovative Tourism at the University of Primorska. As a lecturer at CVŠ Gea College, she also connects her professional trajectory with pedagogical practice.
Janja Berložnik’s professional and academic work is centred on regenerative tourism and regenerative development, with particular emphasis on regenerative culinary tourism, regenerative storytelling, and the involvement of local communities in tourism development. The central questions in her work concern the role of food, storytelling, and stakeholder collaboration in shaping tourism practices that contribute to the resilience of places, the strengthening of local identity, and a more constructive relationship between visitors, providers, and the environment. Among her selected publications is the article Creative Tourism and Gastronomic Tourism Experiences.
At ZRC SAZU, she is involved in the Regenera4MED project, which, between 2025 and 2027, is developing a Mediterranean model of regenerative tourism within the Interreg Euro-MED programme as a response to climate change and risk prevention; the project brings together partners from Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, and Slovenia. Within this project, she also contributes to the preparation of expert background materials and educational content aimed at bringing regenerative approaches into practice. In her future work, she intends to give particular attention to the role of local communities, food, and storytelling in regenerative tourism, while contributing to the wider presence of this approach in destination development and education.
